Based on 6,264 reviewsCendol Kampung Hulu is widely recognized for its refreshing and flavorful cendol, highlighted by generous servings of shaved ice and a distinctive use of gula Melaka syrup. Patrons appreciate the authentic taste that balances sweetness, with some preferring customizable sugar levels. The location near the Melaka River adds to its appeal, offering a relaxed ambiance enhanced by scenic views and an inviting outdoor setting. Service is generally prompt and courteous, though the popularity of the spot often results in crowding, particularly during weekends and holidays. While considered slightly pricey by some, the quality and experience make it a sought-after destination for both locals and tourists craving traditional Malaysian dessert.
Nice cendul ever, and it is worth the price. I haven't try to dine at makan avenue but I will comeback. The service counter is good and fast, the staff treat the customer very well. I want to have a seat and eat my cendul but there is no empty chair, because of full of people coming here plus,it was on school holiday. The environment is also look quite chill but same time can feel the heat
Melaka Cendol Surprise me is the difference of shave ice & mix with coconut milk santan, taste refreshing! Gula Melaka is a bit sweet to me. Maybe I can ask for less sweet next time. Regular Cendol has a scoop of ice cream. Looks really appetizing. RM9.90 per serving. Steep price with bigger serving. Allocated along riverside. May sit in or outside tables. Easy to takeaway off to go.
Under the blazing Malaysian sun, few things hit the spot like a cold bowl of cendol. And when it comes to satisfying that sweet craving, Cendol Kampung Hulu doesn’t just deliver—it pours happiness into a bowl, adds a mountain of shaved ice, and drizzles it with legendary gula Melaka. Located near the scenic Melaka River, this place isn’t just a dessert stop—it’s a full-on cendol pilgrimage. Locals swear by it, tourists find it by accident and never forget it, and if your GPS leads you here, thank your lucky stars (and Waze). The gula Melaka - thick, dark, aromatic—this isn’t your average syrup; this is the Beyoncé of palm sugar. It makes every spoonful sing. Pair that with soft red beans, perfectly chewy green jelly (which totally counts as a vegetable, right?), and creamy coconut milk, and you've got yourself a bowl of nostalgia and national pride. The green worm-like jelly in cendol is made from rice flour and pandan juice, so technically you’re having something plant-based. Healthier than it looks? We’ll go with yes. Try the durian cendol if you’re feeling bold (or just want to test your travel buddy’s limits). It’s creamy, rich, and absolutely unashamed of its smell. Love it or hate it, it’s a full-on tropical adventure in a bowl. The ambience was rustic charm meets riverside vibes. It’s the kind of place where you can sit back, cool off, and watch the world (and boats full of tourists) float by. The prices Super reasonable. You’ll get change back from a tenner and still feel like you just experienced a five-star dessert. If you’re in Melaka and you don’t try Cendol Kampung Hulu, did you even go to Melaka? Swing by, grab a bowl, and let the gula Melaka do its magic. Warning: may cause spontaneous happy dancing and brain freeze.
Nice place to visit because it is near the river Melaka. Cendol was great and smooth. A little bit crowded on weekends.
Wandering around Melaka and needing something truly refreshing, Cendol Kampung Hulu is just the place to be! The laid-back vibe is unbeatable—you get to relax outdoors by the historic river, watch the world go by, and soak in the lively buzz of wall art and old shophouses. It’s got that easy charm where you feel comfortable enough to just sit back, chat with friends, and let time flow with the breeze. The star of the scene is, no doubt, the cendol. Each bowl comes loaded with chewy green pandan jelly, creamy coconut milk, and soft red beans, all piled on top of a mountain of silky shaved ice. Rich palm sugar syrup is generously drizzled over, and the flavor burst is something out of this world. For those with bold taste buds, trying the special durian cendol adds a custardy richness that’s just unforgettable. Every scoop gives you a cool, slurpy satisfaction—perfect whether you’re melting from the heat or just craving authentic local sweets.
love that it’s outside by the river, making it a nice, windy, and airy spot to cool down after walking the historical streets under the sun. they were also happy to accommodate my request for no cendol in my cendol . this little bowl was more than enough for me and my boyfriend. I also love that they have such refreshing fruit options to pair with the coconut ice cream and shaved ice. longan is my favorite fruit, and I have NEVER been given the option to pair it with cendol — much, much, much appreciated.
My all-time favourite! It’s a must-have every time I’m in town. Their cendol is extra special because the shaved ice is made from santan, giving it a rich, creamy taste. So refreshing and delicious! Unfortunately, the price has gone up quite a bit, but it’s still worth it for the quality and unique flavour.
